Introduction to the Tao of Trauma
Chinese Medicine Meets the Neurophysiology of Traumatic Stress
Stockholm, Sweden | April 2–4, 2027
with Alaine Duncan, hosted by Louise Tjernqvist.
I am delighted to welcome Alaine Duncan, author of The Tao of Trauma, to Stockholm for an experiential and clinically grounded introduction to the Tao of Trauma model. This workshop explores traumatic stress through an East-meets-West lens, weaving together the Five Elements of Chinese Medicine, the neurophysiology of self-protective responses, Polyvagal Theory, Adverse Childhood Experiences, and bottom-up approaches to healing.Over two days, we will explore how unresolved trauma can shape the body, mind, emotions, and spirit — and how ancient healing principles can support regulation, balance, and embodied resilience.
About the Workshop
The Tao of Trauma model offers an integrative framework for understanding how traumatic stress may show up through patterns such as chronic pain, emotional distress, insomnia, autoimmune issues, digestive challenges, and nervous system dysregulation.Together, we will explore the fundamentals of the model through teaching, reflection, and practice — with a focus on how the Five Elements can deepen our understanding of survival responses and clinical care.
