Nervous System & Nature Retreat - THE WATER & FREEZE WEEKEND
NERVOUS SYSTEM & NATURE RETREAT
THE WATER & FREEZE WEEKEND
PAUSE. BE HELD. LISTEN. UNDERSTAND. EXPERIENCE.
You can be strong, independent and highly capable — and still feel stuck in your body. Perhaps you’ve already done a lot of work. You understand your patterns, your history and why you respond the way you do. Yet your body may still feel tight, heavy, tired, braced or unable to fully let go.
Sometimes the next step isn't more information.
It is slowing down enough to notice what is already there.
“My body has a lot to say. I’m not sure what it means yet — and that’s okay.”
A reflection from our last retreat. That is what these weekends are about.
Not analysing every sensation. Not digging for another story. Not fixing yourself.
But creating enough space, support and curiosity to listen to the body and experience your nervous system from the inside.
“A flower can’t be opened with a hammer.”
Neither can your nervous system.
We don't force change. We create the conditions that allow something different to become possible.
FREEZE, WATER & YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
For three days, we step away from everyday pace and become curious about Freeze — the nervous system's intelligent response when fighting or fleeing no longer feels possible or safe.
How might immobilisation, bracing or collapse show up as tension, fatigue, disconnection, difficulty making decisions, loss of motivation — or the strange experience of being highly capable and somehow stuck at the same time?
Alongside the biology of Freeze, February brings us into winter and the Water element — stillness, fear, depth and inner wisdom.
Nature isn't asking anything to bloom in February. Perhaps we don't need to either.
Through nervous-system education, somatic practices, TRE®, gentle movement, reflection, nature and connection, we explore:
What happens when I pause?
What happens when I don't know?
What can I hear when I stop pushing forward?
There is time to understand the biology. There is time to experience your own nervous system. And there is time to simply let things land. Because sometimes we have to become quiet enough to hear what the body already knows.
YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW TO BE STRONG.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE SUPPORTED?
DURING THE WEEKEND, WE'LL EXPLORE
— The biology of Freeze, immobilisation and collapse
— How Freeze and bracing can show up in everyday life and the body
— Safety, support and what helps the nervous system shift state
— Somatic awareness, TRE® and embodied nervous-system practices
— Water: fear, stillness, depth and inner wisdom
— Nature, movement, rest, nourishment and connection
— Listening to your body without immediately trying to fix it
You’ll leave with:
— A deeper understanding of your own nervous system
— Greater awareness of what your body is communicating
— Practical ways to create more support in everyday life
— Experiences and practices you can continue at home
— More curiosity and less judgement toward your responses
— A deeper connection to your own inner wisdom

MEET YOUR HOST
Louise Tjernqvist is a functional medicine and nervous-system practitioner, TRE® Provider and former Swedish National Team swimmer and Olympic medallist.
With more than 18 years in integrative health, nutrition and functional medicine, her work today brings together nervous-system biology, somatic experience, functional health and nature.
Having lived the high-performance world herself, Louise has a particular understanding of the person who is very good at pushing through, figuring things out and carrying a lot — and what can happen when the body eventually has something to say about the pace.
Her work isn't about making people less driven. It's about building the awareness and capacity to work with the body rather than against it.

Nervous System & Nature Retreat - THE WOOD & FIGHT/FLIGHT WEEKEND
NERVOUS SYSTEM & NATURE RETREAT
THE WOOD & FIGHT/FLIGHT WEEKEND
WHEN YOU KNOW YOU NEED TO REST — BUT YOUR BODY WON’T SWITCH OFF.
You can be strong, driven and highly capable — and still feel stuck in go.
You know you need to slow down. You may even create the time to rest.
But sitting still feels uncomfortable. Your mind keeps moving. Your body stays tense. There is always something else to do, solve, organise or think about.
You’re tired — but you can’t quite come down.
Your drive isn't something we want to take away. It has helped you achieve, create, lead and become who you are.
This weekend is about becoming curious about what happens when that same mobilisation doesn't switch off when you want it to.
Not learning to push less.
Learning why your body may still be pushing even when you have stopped.
“A flower can’t be opened with a hammer.”
You cannot force a mobilised nervous system into rest either.
We create the conditions for the body to begin experiencing something different.
FIGHT/FLIGHT, WOOD & YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
For three days, we explore Fight & Flight — the nervous system's natural mobilisation for action, protection and movement.
What happens when this energy gets stuck in the on position?
It can look like tension, restlessness, irritability, a racing mind, difficulty doing nothing, always anticipating what's next — or feeling exhausted while something inside you is still pressing the accelerator.
Alongside the biology of Fight/Flight, we explore the Wood element — movement, direction, benevolence, anger and expression.
Through nervous-system education, somatic practices, TRE®, movement, Heart Coherence, nature, rest and connection, we become curious about your own system:
What happens in me when I stop?
Why can rest feel uncomfortable?
Can I notice mobilisation before it becomes exhaustion?
What would it feel like for my body to know when enough is enough?
We are not diminishing your drive.
We are expanding your capacity to move between mobilisation and rest.
Because knowing that you need to rest and having a body that can actually experience rest are two very different things.
That last sentence is probably the core of the whole March retreat. It speaks directly to your wired-but-tired / vidbrändperson without making ambition or drive the villain.
YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW TO BE STRONG.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE SUPPORTED?
DURING THE WEEKEND, WE'LL EXPLORE
— The biology of Fight & Flight and mobilisation
— How chronic mobilisation can show up in body and everyday life
— Tension, bracing, restlessness and difficulty switching off
— Anger, frustration, boundaries and healthy mobilisation
— Somatic awareness, TRE®, movement and Heart Coherence
— The Wood element: direction, movement and expression
— How to access your power without constantly running on stress
You'll leave with:
— A deeper understanding of your own Fight/Flight patterns
— Greater awareness of how mobilisation feels in your body
— Practical ways to work with activation rather than simply suppressing it
— More awareness around boundaries, energy and recovery
— Embodied practices you can continue at home
— A different relationship with your own drive and power

Tao of Trauma Workshop
The Tao of Trauma — Live in Stockholm
Stockholm, Sweden | April 2–4, 2027
With Alaine Duncan, author of The Tao of Trauma
Hosted by The Tao of Trauma Team in collaboration with Louise Tjernqvist
An East-meets-West approach to understanding trauma
What if the way we respond to trauma isn’t random — but follows recognizable patterns?
When Peter Levine described the sequence of the Self-Protective Response observed in predator–prey relationships, he identified a movement that Alaine Duncan later recognized within the ancient Five Element model of Chinese Medicine.
In this experiential and clinically grounded workshop, Alaine brings these worlds together — weaving the Five Elements, neurophysiology of the Self-Protective Response, Polyvagal Theory, Adverse Childhood Experiences and bottom-up approaches to healing.
During this workshop, you will:
• Discover survival patterns through the Five Elements.
Explore how the Five Elements can help us understand different patterns of protection and identify where the natural movement through a self-protective response may have become interrupted.
• Understand why “just relax” often doesn’t work.
If we try to move someone toward calm without understanding the survival pattern underneath, the nervous system may simply return to its familiar protective state. Rather than pushing the system toward regulation, we learn to recognize what it is protecting and what it may need to complete.
• Learn to see beyond the symptom.
Chronic tension and pain, digestive disturbances, insomnia, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, collapse and other complex symptoms may reflect deeper patterns of unresolved protective responses. The Five Elements offer another map for understanding where these patterns may be expressed in the body, emotions and physiology.
• Bring the model into clinical practice.
Through teaching, embodied exploration and live clinical observation, learn to recognize patterns of brace, collapse and dysregulation — and develop a more nuanced understanding of how to support regulation, resilience and capacity.
About the Workshop
The Tao of Trauma offers an integrative framework for understanding traumatic stress through the combined lens of Chinese Medicine and Western neurobiology.
Rather than viewing trauma only through symptoms or diagnoses, the model helps practitioners become curious about the protective response underneath: Where did the system become interrupted? What survival pattern are we seeing? And what might help restore movement rather than simply suppress the response?
Across the workshop, we will explore these principles through teaching, reflection, experiential practice and clinical application.

About Alaine Duncan
Alaine Duncan has developed a unique approach to acupuncture and trauma healing that integrates modern understanding of the neurobiology of traumatic stress with ancient principles from Acupuncture and Asian Medicine.
She graduated from acupuncture school in 1990 and completed Somatic Experiencing training in 2007. In 2012, she founded Integrative Healing, LLC, with the intention of bringing Chinese Medicine, neurobiology and trauma healing together in both the classroom and treatment room.
Her research background includes integrative medicine for compassion fatigue in military caregivers, acupuncture for combat-related traumatic stress, chronic headaches in veterans with traumatic brain injuries, pain in veterans and Gulf War Veterans Illness.

A Free Workshop on the Nervous System, Energy, and Finding Your Way Back to Yourself
When Your Body Says No
A Free Workshop on the Nervous System, Energy, and Why Recovery Sometimes Feels So Difficult
Perhaps you recognize the feeling. You are exhausted but cannot fully rest. You know what you "should" be doing, yet your body seems unwilling to come along. Sleep, energy, focus, motivation, and recovery suddenly feel much more complicated than they should. Many of us have learned to interpret this as a sign that we need to try harder, think differently, or become better at self-care. But what if your body is not the problem?
In this inspiring workshop, we will explore how the nervous system influences our energy, relationships, health, and ability to feel present in our lives. You will gain a deeper understanding of how stress, trauma, fascia, attachment patterns, and the body's biological systems work together—and why the body can continue to signal danger even when we logically know we are safe.
This is not another stress-management class. It is an invitation to understand yourself in a new way. You will leave with fresh insights, practical tools, and a deeper appreciation for the wisdom of your body. For many, this becomes the first step from fighting their body to partnering with it.
Choose the time that works best for you
Wednesday, August 5th | 08:30–09:30 CET
or
Friday, August 7th | 12:00–13:00 CET
The workshop is free to attend. Registration is required.
I look forward to welcoming you.

NEW DATE!!
FREE LECTURE - The Biology of Trauma – how your biochemistry shapes your nervous system healing
Have you ever wondered why some days, no matter how much breathwork, meditation or mindset you practice — your body still feels stuck?
That’s because healing isn’t only about what we think or feel — it’s deeply connected to our biochemistry. When oxidative stress, blood sugar swings, poor sleep or high stress hormones take the lead, they keep the body in a state of survival. Understanding and balancing these internal signals is key to unlocking regulation, energy and true calm.
Join me for a free live workshop where we explore The Biology of Trauma® — the missing link between body, mind and biochemistry.
You’ll learn how your cells, hormones and mitochondria all influence your nervous system’s ability to heal, and simple steps to begin shifting from survival to safety.

From Surviving To Thriving - A Nervous System Group Program
6 WEEKS OF GROUNDING KNOWLEDGE AND A CURIOUS SOMATIC EXPLORATION OF YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM.
Feeling like you’re at the end of your tether? You’ve followed all the rules, but your body’s still throwing up roadblocks—chronic pain, relentless fatigue, and yet, all your lab results look fine?
Remember, your body hasn’t given up on you; if it had, your heart wouldn’t be beating. Please, don’t give up on your body. What if “giving up” isn’t the answer? Perhaps it’s more about finding a sense of surrender.
Working with the nervous system (NS) isn’t about fixing something that’s broken—because nothing is. Your mind might have different ideas about that, but we’ll guide you through it in the programme. When we cultivate a friendly relationship with our nervous system, true healing and regulation can unfold.
The Grounded Retreat - Sep 2025

From this grounded place, your mind will find clarity, and you may discover the courage to listen to your own inner magic. Louise will guide you in understanding your cravings, symptoms, and how you might be standing in your own way.
TRUE retreats offer a safe, intimate, and transformative space with like-minded individuals, so you know you’re not alone on this journey.

MedDr, Leg.sjukgymnast PhD, PT.
Retreat: Grounded
The Program
You’re invited to a transformative experience where we’ll explore the language of your nervous system with curiosity and self-compassion.
Louise’s goal is to help you step back this weekend, lean into yourself, and trust that nature has your back and that your answers are within you. Let go of the urge to push, figure things out, or drive forward. Instead, allow yourself to pause, settle, and surrender, even if just for a brief moment, to simply being.
The Location
The retreat takes place at the historic Sandsgården in Gopshus, a charming Dala Village located 20 km northwest of Mora. Nestled in the stunning mountain landscape of Dalarna, this privately owned estate features 11 double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and shower. Relax in the sauna and hot tub by the creek, and if you’re feeling adventurous, take a refreshing cold plunge.
This programme is a mindful blend of action and stillness. Experience gentle, intentional body movements alongside mindful exercises that encourage deep inner exploration in your own time. Our hikes through the breathtaking landscape connect us with nature, while evening fire ceremonies provide a space to integrate and reflect on the day’s teachings and insights.
“ Nature's rhythm sets the pace as the morning light touches my eyes. With bare feet on the moist earth I take it all in, I snuggled up in a warm knitted hoodie as I am sipping on a warm cup of tea. I slowly move off the deck and into the main hall. I feel every joint, breath and muscle in my strong body as the morning practice awakens and energizes my body. In a slow yet steady pace, my body then takes me to the kitchen navigated by the freshly made coffee and nourishing omelet. As I enter the kitchen I smile as I notice the colorful smoothies and feel the whole hearted atmosphere. I am held, I am taken care of, I relax.”
What To Expect
As you return home, this retreat will equip you with both practical tools and techniques and, more importantly, a gentler mindset. You’ll leave with a newfound ability to maintain a grounded connection with your nervous system, feeling more centred and at peace. If you seek ongoing support, a welcoming community is ready for you to join.
Food
Our private chef will be serving nourishing meals for both a grounding body and an awakened soul, everything in sync with the season and the local farmers. We are serving dairy and gluten free meals throughout our days together.

“With one foot in biochemistry and the other in energy medicine this was a truly transformative weekend - on many levels. It invited a deep dive within, finding tools to calm myself in the eye of the storm & courage to be in the storm. Guiding me with my heart as the compass to locate where I am today and where I would like to go.”
“This has been both educational but first & foremost an expansion of my senses. I realize that I stand in my own way yet I have gained hope - fascinated by that the body does nothing by chance.”
“This weekend has opened up a whole new world to me. Thank you very much.”
“Louise leads wonderfully from the heart. She is attentive and humble at the same time as she encourages personal responsibility and that the power is within you. The way she sees the big picture is unique.”

Effective nervous system functioning requires time, safety, and support. The nervous system tends to operate best at a slower pace, so it's crucial to give your body the time, knowledge, tools, and space it needs for self-regulation to happen naturally. This mentorship is designed to kickstart that process. While we can't predict if it will ever be fully complete, we all deserve a solid first step and foundation. That's exactly what my 3-month mentorship program is here to provide you with.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about this mentorship, you can book a free 15-minute chat with me here.

Spring 2024 Retreat
Back To Nature: A True Retreat
Hello and welcome to a transformative 2-night, 3-day weekend designed to help you reconnect with your body and soul. During this retreat, you'll find a sense of calm and clarity in your mind.
This workshop is an opportunity for you to explore different aspects of yourself in a safe and supportive environment. We'll look at how the nervous system works and how certain habits we hold onto might be getting in the way of fully embracing who we are.
Instead of fighting against our own nervous system, we'll learn to respect both our inner motivations and our inner doubts. We'll approach this with curiosity and strive for a "good enough for today" mindset while setting healthy boundaries for ourselves and in our interactions with others.
You'll also gain practical tools for managing your physical and mental well-being in your everyday life and at work. Our days will involve group activities and partner exercises, as well as moments for personal reflection.
The Location - Österby Gård
Our retreat will be held at a beautiful and serene private estate known as Österby Gård, nestled in the enchanting countryside of Näshulta in the Sörmland region.
The main house at Österby Gård, located by the lakeside, was constructed in 1895, while the guest house dates back around 200 years, and both have been recently refurbished. Together, they can accommodate up to 12 guests, offering 5 double rooms and 2 single rooms.
Getting to this tranquil location is convenient, as it's approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Stockholm or a 1-hour train journey followed by a 20-minute taxi ride.
At the estate, you'll have access to private docks for lakeside swimming, an outdoor jacuzzi, a sauna, SUP boards, rowboats, and scenic running and hiking trails to make your stay even more enjoyable.
Investment
The total cost of this weekend is: 11, 975 SEK (incl. MOMS)
50% of the total price above is paid to secure your spot, the remaining 50% is to be paid 2 weeks before the retreat.
The weekend will host a maximum of 12 participants.
